9.3 Reunion travel

Reunion travel allows you to arrange visits with your dependants if you are separated from them while on duty in another location in Australia.

Who is eligible?

You may be eligible for reunion travel if you are a member with dependants and you are living away from home on duty for two months or more.

What do you get?

You can travel six times for a year of separation. If you are separated for a shorter time, this is applied on a proportional basis. This works out to a visit for each two months apart.

You may be able to have dependants visit you, instead of you visiting them. You should get advice about the tax implications of doing this. See PACMATE Part 3, Tax issues.

If you are sent on duty to the location where your dependants live and you are not needed for duty for two or more days in a row, this will count as a reunion visit.

You do not have to take leave at the same time as reunion travel. For example, it can be taken over a weekend.

If you have not used a reunion travel entitlement within six months of becoming eligible, it will lapse.

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
