8.8 Emergency Support for Families

 

Emergency support can be given to your family when you are not able to be there. You might be away for Service reasons or medical reasons.

 

What support can be provided?

A Defence Community Organisation social worker will be made available to your family to give support, organisation of professional care and case management to help them through an emergency. The support available to your family may include the following.

 

·            Dependant care.

·            Specialist dependant care.

·            Housekeeping.

·            Child minding.

·            Respite care.

·            Travel for immediate family members to help your dependants.

 

These services can be from a professional or by a family member.

 

How do I apply?

You or your dependants can apply for emergency support. In some cases, your unit commander may apply on your dependants' behalf. You can contact the following services to apply for support.

 

·            During business hours — the DCO Area Manager at your local Defence Community Organisation.

·            After business hours — the National Welfare Coordination Centre on 1800 801 026.

 

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
