7.9 Food allowance for a member with dependants (unaccompanied)

If you are classified as a member with dependants (unaccompanied), you are given help with the cost of your meals. This is because you are already paying the cost of meals for your dependants. (see 8.1, What category are you in?)

What do you get?

If you are occupying living-in accommodation, you are provided with meals free of charge.

If you are not living in, you can get an allowance towards the cost of meals. If you prefer you can have a pass to eat free in the mess instead of the allowance.

Food allowance is not paid while you are on leave for more than seven days, or if the Commonwealth is paying for your meals in some other way.

Examples of this last situation are if you are receiving travel costs for more than one day, or if you are being paid for meals as part of temporary accommodation allowance (see 7.4).

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
