7.6 Other types of Service residences
You can choose a Service residence that is different to the kind that is normally available to you for your rank and number of dependants.
This different kind of Service residence is called a rent band choice home.
They may be in a more expensive location or have other features that could offer a better lifestyle. However, they may not have all the features that would usually be in a home that is considered 'suitable'. For example you may give up a bedroom, meals area, car parking, garage or backyard.
Choosing one of these homes is voluntary but once you move into the home it is taken to be suitable for you.
Any member who is eligible for a Service residence.
The classification of these homes depends on their market rent. You will have to pay the contribution for the home that you choose. If you choose a home with a market rent that is higher than the rent band for your rank, you pay a higher contribution.
Application to Reservists: No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
