5.7 War service leave

War service leave gives you time to readjust after warlike service.

Who gets the leave?

You must have served in an area that was declared to be operational, and warlike, by the Minister for Defence. A list is in Annex 17.1.B in the hard copy or Defweb versions of the ADF Pay and Conditions Manual (Chapter 17).

What leave do you get?

You accrue up to 18 days for every year of warlike service. While on war service leave, you will be paid the same as you would be for taking recreation leave. This might include international campaign allowance or deployment allowance.

Payment instead of war service leave

If you leave the ADF, you will be paid for any unused war service leave credits. You may be able to be paid instead of war service leave while still employed, if you are not permitted to go on leave for Service reasons.

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
