5.10 Travelling leave

 

Travelling leave gives you extra time to travel to and from your leave destination. It allows you to make better use of your other leave.

 

When do you get it?

You can take travelling leave when you are granted any of these types of travel.

 

·          Recreation leave travel in Australia.

·          Compassionate travel.

·          Pre-deployment travel.

 

Travelling leave is only granted if you are travelling for more than 12 hours. This usually means that if you fly, you will not be granted travelling leave.

 

When don't you get it?

Travelling leave does not apply to these types of travel.

 

·          Reunion travel.

·          Remote location leave travel.

·          Duty travel.

·          Where the travel period is less than 12 hours.

 

How much leave do you get?

You will get between one and six days' leave, linked to the amount of travelling time by the most direct route.

 

If you are in the Navy and your travelling time is more than two days, you will only be given travelling leave once a year.

 

Travelling leave includes weekends and public holidays.

 

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
