4.10 Submarine service allowance
Serving on a submarine is voluntary. If you are posted to a submarine or a submarine arm position then you may get submarine service allowance.
Rates of allowance
The amount of allowance is linked to the amount of time you have served at sea. It increases as you spend more years at sea.
Who gets it?
You will get this allowance
if you meet any of these.

You are posted to
a seagoing submarine.
·
You are posted to
a shore establishment for service in a seagoing submarine.
·
CDF is satisfied
that you are liable to undertake at 100 sea days a year.
·
You are training
in a seagoing submarine to become a qualified submariner.
If you are serving at sea on
a submarine but are not posted to that submarine, then you may get hard lying
allowance (see 4.5).
Who is not paid it?
You will not be paid the allowance if you are paid some other allowances.
· Antarctic allowance.
·
Hard lying
allowance.
· Some members who get
special forces disability allowance.
· Some members who get
an allowance for specialist operations.
Some senior officers do not get this allowance.
Application to Reservists: No, except for Reservists on continuous
full-time service.
