4. ALLOWANCES

4.1 Service allowance

Service allowance pays you for the special demands and conditions of life in the ADF. These include the following.

· The need to be on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

· Frequent postings, often at short notice and the effects of this on you and your family.

· Service discipline.

· Hard living and working conditions.  

Who is not paid it?

You will not be paid Service allowance during any time you are not entitled to salary. You are also not entitled if you are in any of these groups.

· You are a Lieutenant Colonel or above.

· You are a Chaplain Division 3 or above.

· You are being paid a trainee salary.

Application to Reservists:  No, except for Reservists on continuous full-time service.
