3.5 Overpayments and recovery

You might be paid more than you are owed by Defence. This is rare but it can happen due to a change of plan or a mistake. For example, you might cancel a work trip before it happens but still get paid some money for travel costs.

What should you do?

If you notice you have more money in your pay than seems right, the easiest thing is to contact your Military Personnel Administration Centre (MPAC) Pay Section. You will learn if the extra money is yours or an overpayment.

What if it is an overpayment?

Overpayments must be repaid. They might range from a single payment, to a series of payments. You should not assume that you can pay it off slowly. You may have to show that faster payment will cause financial hardship.

Application to Reservists:  Yes.
