10.2 Loss
or damage to clothing or personal effects
In some circumstances, you
may be able to claim for personal items lost, damaged or stolen at work.
What can be claimed?
You can claim for damage or
loss that was directly related to your service. The types of items you can
claim for are the sorts of items you might wear or carry with you (eg briefcases, wallets, jewellery, cash and glasses).
There are items you cannot
claim for:
·
Items repaired or replaced by Defence.
·
Losses caused because you did not take
reasonable steps to avoid them.
·
Losses that happened while going to or
from leave (unless you were recalled from leave, when a claim may be approved).
What will be paid?
You will be paid the amount
Defence decides is reasonable compensation. Defence will take factors like these
into account.
·
The item's current value.
·
Whether you contributed to the loss, for example, by
negligence.
·
Whether you can claim insurance.
·
Whether it can be repaired.
If Defence pays you
compensation, and then you recover money for the loss from someone else (eg an insurer), you must pay Defence the money you recover.
Application to Reservists: Yes.
