How do I register?

Call 1800 DEFENCE (1800 333 362) and follow the prompts.

You can register your details with the operator over the phone.

You will be given an asbestos registration number during the call. (You will need to quote this number to Medibank Health Solutions (MHS) staff when making an appointment for assessment.)
What are the elements of the DAEES?
When you register with the DAEES you will be sent a letter providing details of how to arrange an assessment with Medibank Health Solutions (MHS). The process is:
- The letter will include details of the MHS office in your area.
- You should make an appointment for an asbestos review examination with the MHS office, quoting your asbestos registration number.
- MHS will send you a questionnaire for you to complete and bring to the assessment.
- You attend the MHS appointment at the time and location advised for an asbestos review examination.
- You will be counselled by MHS medical staff and may be referred to a respiratory physician for further testing (depending on your medical condition), or advised to have a follow up examination in 2-10 years.
- You will receive an examination report that will include your questionnaire, medical assessment results, assessment category and treatment plan.
- If you travel more than 50km to your appointment, you are entitled to reimbursement for travel.
