2008 SRCC Safety Awards

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) announced the winners at its annual National Safety Awards presentation in Canberra on 23 October 2008.

The SRCC Safety Awards publicly recognise the efforts that are being made to improve occupational health and safety in the workplace. The Defence Safety Awards provides the gateway to SRCC Safety Awards as the submissions are selected from its winners and commendations. The SRCC Workplace Safety Awards is open to all organisations under the Comcare health and safety jurisdiction including all Commonwealth public service agencies and private sector licensees were eligible for the awards.

The five award categories for 2007 SRCC Workplace Safety Awards are:

Category one - Leadership Award for Injury Prevention and Management
Category two - Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System
Cateogry three - Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
Category four - Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety
Category five - Rehabilitation and Return to Work Award

The Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) introduced its annual Safety Awards in 2001 to further the objective of achieving continuous improvement in injury prevention. The Awards are open to individuals, companies and Government agencies operating within the Commonwealth occupational health and safety (OHS) and workers’ compensation jurisdiction.

Now in their 8th year, these Awards are designed to showcase the sophisticated systems and innovative practices organisations are utilising to ensure all employees are safe at work. Through a formal recognition process, agencies and individuals that have achieved excellence in their respective fields through the introduction and/or development or improvement of safety standards will be rewarded for their initiatives.
