2006 SRCC Safety Awards

The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Kevin Andrews MP presented the annual Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC) Safety Awards at the Great Hall Parliament House in Canberra on 18 October 2006.

The SRCC Safety Awards publicly recognise the efforts that are being made to improve occupational health and safety in the workplace. The Defence Safety Awards provides the gateway to SRCC Safety Awards as the submissions are selected from its winners and commendations. The SRCC Safety Awards is open to all agencies in the Commonwealth agencies and all self insurers. Other finalists included: LINFOX Australia, AUSTRADE, AQIS, CSIRO, Australian Sports Commission and the ATO.

The five award categories for 2006 SRCC Safety Awards are:

  1. Leadership Award for Injury Prevention and Management
  2. Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System
  3. Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue
  4. Best Individual Contribution to Health and Safety
  5. Rehabilitation and Return to Work Award

This year, a total of 31 applications were received across the five award categories. This substantial number of applications recognises both the broadening of the award categories as well as the value placed in receiving a Safety Award.

About FIMA

Fleet Intermediate Maintenance Activity - Perth is the group within HMAS Stirling at Garden Island in Western Australia that undertakes submarine and ship maintenance. There are 13 workshops that form FIMA - Perth and each workshop specialises in different workshop activities and therefore has different hazards and risks. There are approximately 184 full time positions at FIMA - Perth.

About HMAS ANZAC

HMAS ANZAC is the first of her class and a modern warship, capable of operating in a multi-threat environment. ANZAC is fitted with an advanced package of air surveillance radars, hull mounted sonar and electronic support systems that interface with state-of-the-art weapons systems. ANZAC's armament comprises a five-inch (127-mm) gun, Harpoon missiles, Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles and SHip Launched Torpedoes. Multi-role Sikorsky Seahawk or Kaman Seasprite helicopters are embarked to enhance anti-submarine and anti-surface warface capabilities.
