About Skilling, Communications and Business Management (SCBM)

The main roles and functions of the Directorate are:

  • manage the Defence OHSC strategic change agenda, facilitate and support the Defence Occupational Health and Safety Committee in setting long term direction and maintain compatibility between Defence's internal and external environment;
  • provide advice to Defence senior leaders, supporting and facilitating required senior leadership behaviour in relation to OHSC;
  • facilitate accountability for and visibility of Defence's OHSC performance through maintaining OHS governance arrangements and structures, report performance internally and externally;
  • provide advice to Groups (via Group Safety Coordinators), in the implementation of OHSC programs;
  • develop OHSC competencies in Defence at all levels, including e-learning;
  • manage, distribute and communicate OHSC information to Defence via various means such as the OHSC Branch websites; and
  • manage the Branch business operations.
