'FORT DIRECTION'- SOUTH ARM

Location

Fort Direction Holiday Centre is situated approximately 40 km South East of Hobart at South Arm, a small beach retreat. Fort Direction offers the holiday maker boating, fishing, swimming, tennis, hiking and camping in a relaxing, stress free environment.

Accommodation

The accommodation consists of two brick veneer cottages overlooking a beach frontage. While each cottage has been refurbished, the standard of accommodation remains rudimentary.

a. One cottage which sleeps 10 (Casuarina House); and

b. One cottage that sleeps 8 (Shearwater House).

Facilities

All facilities other than linen and towels are provided. You may purchase food, necessities, petrol etc from the General Store located 1 km away in South Arm. Any faults detected can be reported to the Accommodation Clerk who is also the Fort Direction Caretaker.

Pets

Pets are welcome, however they must be confined to cottage yards or restrained on a leash. Furthermore, it is against health regulations to allow pets inside the cottages. Persons failing to observe these guidelines will be required to pay for all cleaning costs and/or damages made by pets.

Tariffs

Tariffs are as follows: 

Casuarina House - High Season: $360.00 per wk or $60.00 per night. Low season: $300.00 per week or $50.00 per night.

Shearwater House - High Season: $300.00 per wk or $50.00 per night. Low season: $240.00 per week or $40.00 per night.

Bookings

Bookings for Fort Direction can either be made in writing or telephone as follows:

Telephone bookings must be followed up in writing as soon as possible after the initial call to ensure complete accuracy of your details.

A normal booking is for seven days during peak periods, however requests for further days may be approved by Tasmania Region Army Amenities Fund. However, it should be noted that over the Christmas and school holiday period bookings are for a maximum seven days only.

Booking Priority

All members employed by the Australian Defence Force (including active Reservists), Retired or Returned Serviceman, civilian employees of the Department of Defence and affiliated organisations, are eligible to use the facilities at Fort Direction on the following priority basis:

a. All Australian Regular Army personnel - bookings 9 months in advance; and

b. All other eligible categories  - bookings 6 months in advance.

Confirmation of Bookings

Once a booking has been made, payment of the tariff should follow as soon as possible. Confirmation of bookings will only be forwarded when the full amount shown on the account has been paid and receipted.

Cancellation of Bookings

Notice of cancellation of a booking is to be given to the Tasmanian Region Army Amenities Fund at the earliest possible opportunity. Any cancellations received less than two weeks before the booked date may result in forfeiture of some, or all, of the monies already paid, unless another tenant can be found to occupy the cottage. In this case, money will be refunded.
