Australian Industry Boosted by US
Defense Treaty
The signing of the Australia-US Treaty by Prime Minister John Howard
and US President George W. Bush on Defense Trade Cooperation during
the APEC leaders week in Sydney is a significant moment in the history
of military industry cooperation between our two nations

Future Workforce a Focus of Attention
The Joint Defence and Industry Training Task Force is looking at the
prospect of expanding Queensland’s ‘Aviation High’
concept, that introduces school students to the aviation industry,
to other states.

Project Management Awards Success
Two of DMO’s major procurement projects have been successful
in the annual Australian Institute of Project Management Awards. The
Project Management Achievement Awards recognise excellence in all
aspects of project management across Australia.

AWD Alliance National Roadshow
The Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance will tour Australia in late October-early
November to promote project opportunities to Australian industry.
The focus of the Alliance Roadshow will be to provide Australian industry
with an update on the status of the project, explain the opportunities
that exist for various sectors of Australian industry and the timetable
for source selection.

Identifying
Priority Local Industry Capabilities
Australian defence industry is vital to the support of Australian
Defence operations, and the ADF is dependent on a support base that
includes both local and overseas suppliers. Since the release of the
Government's Defence and Industry Policy Statement 2007 in March,
team members from Industry Division have been developing a framework
to investigate the current Australian defence industry support base
and identify the Priority Local Industry Capabilities (PLICs) that
reside within it.

Exposure Draft Released for Comment
Comments are being sought from both Defence and industry on the exposure
draft of the Australian Industry Capability Manual, plus
the accompanying Supply Chain Management Plan and the Code
of Conduct. All are posted on the DMO webpage.
