Lewis Award from Gregor Ferguson for the work the International
Seal Company undertook with Navy stores
Take a close look at the work of the International
Seal Company Australia (ISCA) and you will see why they say: “We’re
not just a seal company”.
ISCA has worked hard to develop its manufacturing of high tolerance,
high quality plastic injection moulded components for a wide range
of areas, and machined components and specific retro-fit or refurbishment
programs for Defence, the medical industry and aviation/airfield
and light commercial.
ISCA has operated since 1979 and also imports, manufactures and
sells elastomeric seals and o-rings for a variety of applications.
Other areas of manufacturing include rubber moulding and tool making.
The company also is a major supplier to Defence and the aerospace
industry as an original equipment manufacturer and after market
supplier with full traceability and certification.
National Sales and Marketing Manager, Mr Greg Phillips, points
out that ISCA works hard for innovative solutions and is proud of
achievements, such as with Navy stores (for which it has won the
Australian Defence Magazine Essington Lewis Trophy for Defence project
Team of the Year 2006).
“Navy stores across Australia had extensive rubber preformed
items that were unused and in need of a major clean out,”
Greg said. “We won the contract to inspect, evaluate, store,
repackage and determine shelf life capacity for the items that were
deemed perishable.”
Greg pointed out ISCA’s range of military quality o-rings
and seals meet full requirements. “We manufacture and supply
seals mainly to the Navy for submarines and surface ships, but also
supply to the Air Force and major commercial jet aircraft repairers
in Australia and New Zealand.”
“The ISCA team was headed by Mr Kevin Miller, Director of
ISCA and the company’s chemist with extensive knowledge of
elastomeric compounds, and Mr Damien Miller, General Manager of
ISCA and who also has vast experience in rubber and plastic injection
moulding. All the findings were recorded into a database compatible
with Navy requirements.”
The project concluded in December, 2006, and during that time over
15,000 parts were inspected. Of these, over 60 percent inspected
were found to be serviceable and were returned in correct packaging
for storage into the Defence storage network.
ISCA also has recently been included as a participant in the Rapid
Prototype Development and Evaluation (RPDE) program for the investigation
and evaluation of Defence capability improvement.
