A challenge to modernising the soldier is that while equipment needs
are evolving, there is an increasing requirement to rapidly respond
to equipment demands to support the operational tempo.

Helicopter Systems makes its mark
It is now just over a year since DMO's Helicopter Systems Division
(HSD) was formed under the leadership of Major General Tony Fraser.
The Division comprises the Navy and Army rotary wing elements, previously
part of Aerospace Systems Division (ASD).

There will be more flying opportunities for Navy's junior aircrew
following the Royal Australian Navy's acceptance of the Augusta Westland
A109E Power Helicopter in a ceremony at HMAS Albatross in
Nowra.

The role of the Industry Skilling Directorate (ISD) in Industry Division
is to influence and initiate the development of skilled resources
in the Australian defence industry sector. This role directly supports
the broad strategic aim of Industry Division to ensure the ADF is
well supported by a strong and commercially viable defence industry
sector.
