Violet Ljubica Maleczek
Role: Systems Engineering Manager
Area: Clothing SPO LCSB LSD
Where did you study and how long did it take you to complete
your degree?
University of Zagreb, Croatia - Faculty of Technology: A four year
Engineering degree in Textile Technology specialising in Textile
Chemistry, and Master degree in Polymer Technology.
What made you choose engineering?
I always had an interest in chemistry as a youth and wanted to pursue
a career in this field. As I was in the process of Uni course selection,
a modern polyester fibre plant was established in my hometown which
was looking to recruit engineering staff; this would satisfy not
only my desire to work in the chemical industry but also give me
an opportunity to be on the forefront of the latest technology developments.
Under such circumstances, the choice of an engineering course was
most accommodating
What made you decide to join the DMO?
DMO promotes engineering excellence and provides interactive involvement
with a wide range of industry.
What aspects of your current duties do you enjoy?
Throughout my professional career I have always been involved in
different segments of the textile industry and a variety of different
products, and my current position in Clothing SPO continues to provide
the same challenge and diversity.
Where would you like to take your career in the future?
Now with my broad industry experience, I would like to be more involved
in passing my knowledge on through mentoring and training.
In today’s rapidly evolving engineering environment that is
continuously creating new engineering disciplines, I am in support
of Margaret Wertheim, the prominent science author’s call
to encourage women to participate and to “alter the intellectual
climate”.
