Being a supplier to the Australian Defence Force has a cachet that is valued by overseas governments and recognised by other buyers and companies in Australia. ADF’s reputation as a well-informed and astute buyer arises from our stringent defence procurement regime that imposes strict procedures and standards that must be met before companies can supply to the Australian Defence Force.
The Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme has been in operation for a number of years now. Under the scheme, companies that have a satisfactory history of supplying to Defence can apply to use a logo that identifies them as a recognised supplier to Defence. The scheme has always been aimed at helping Australian defence companies export overseas. More than 270 companies now have the right to use the logo on their letterheads and advertisements.
However, the scheme has not been able to offer a distinction between companies that offer strategic goods and services from those that offer important, but less strategic products. Therefore, the Minister for Defence has recently agreed to the establishment of a new category within the Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme (DRSS).
A new ‘purple’ logo (shown left) is now used to identify suppliers of strategically significant equipment and services which are specialised and which can be critical to the success of an operational deployment. The ‘green’ logo has also been updated (shown left) for prospective eligible applicants.
Companies that receive the right to use a logo generally display it on corporate stationery, packaging and marketing material. Companies also receive a certificate which they can display on their premises. Companies that already use the Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme logo or wish to apply for the new logo can obtain further information at the DRSS web site or through the new Defence Small Business Access on 1800 621 783 or at defence.smallbusiness@defence.gov.au |
