Victorian based Production Parts is the first Australian company to deliver work on the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) project having successfully manufactured both airframe and engine components for the Lockheed Martin F35 JSF.

Production Parts was founded in 1946 and in the past years, has consistently upgraded its production facility, equipment, organisation and systems in order to compete and win.

The company now houses an extremely advanced defence and aerospace engineering workshop with capabilities including computer numerical control machining, general machining, gear cutting, gear grinding and assembly facilities.

Typical projects undertaken by Production Parts include; aerospace and aircraft components and spare parts, aircraft and airframe structural components, process machinery and tooling, machining and precision manufacture of defence components for decoys, missiles, land vehicles and sea-going vessels, assembly of complex machined elements and design and drafting of fixtures, jigs and mechanical assemblies.

The JSF project is a positive step forward for the company and Production Parts Company Director Mr Peter Nicholls said the JSF project has helped position the company globally.

‘Global competition for the JSF project has been tough but Australian industry has had good wins and has been given the opportunity to compete on the worldwide stage.
‘There have been many industry lessons learned along the way that will be of benefit to the Australian aerospace and defence industry in the future, not only on the JSF project but other international projects as well,’ Mr Nicholls said.

As recipients of the Telstra and Australian Government Victorian Small Business Award and members of the Manufacturing Hall of Fame 2005, Production Parts is committed to growing its export business in 2006.
