Defence Industry Innovation Centre launched
The Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr, and the Minister for Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, Mr Greg Combet, have announced the launch of the $21.2 million Defence Industry Innovation Centre.

Submariners to receive pressurised escape training in Australia
Mr Greg Combet, Minister for Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, announced on 4 August 2009 that the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) will benefit from pressurised submarine escape training being reinstated in Australia, following the signing of a contract between the Defence Materiel Organisation and the Underwater Centre Fremantle (TUCF).

DMO awards Raytheon Squirrel helicopter contract
Mr Greg Combet, Minister for Defence Personnel, Materiel and Science, announced on 29 July that the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) has awarded Raytheon Australia an In-Service Support contract for the Squirrel helicopter fleet.

Damien Brown is 26 and completing the Materiel Vocational Employment Scheme (MVES) at the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO). The MVES is designed to support students through their final years of TAFE. MVES provides part-time paid employment combined with flexible ongoing study and guaranteed employment on successful completion of the Scheme.
