DMO forges ahead with industry skilling package
DMO’s Industry Skilling Directorate is forging ahead with implementation of the Industry Skilling Program Enhancement (ISPE) package announced by the Federal Government in November 2008. The ISPE package consists of 14 new defence industry skilling and career initiatives.

Final product specific focus group for 2008
In November last year, the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) through Industry Division hosted the final product specific focus group for 2008.
The Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) and Surface Supplied Breathing Apparatus (SSBA) focus groups were held in conjunction with Pacific Commercial Diving Supply, Divex and Apollo Australia, who currently supply and maintain the equipment used by both the Navy and Army.

Anti-Ship Missile Defence Project - SEA WARRIOR EXERCISE
In December last year, the ANZAC Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) Project conducted its first and highly successful “Sea Warrior” exercise. It was held at the ANZAC Combat System Integration Laboratory (ACSIL) at DSTO Edinburgh, SA in conjunction with the HMAS PERTH Operations Team.

Joint purchase of maritime satellite communications terminals for Air Warfare Destroyer and LHD Amphibious Ships
The Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) recently signed a contract with BAE Systems Australia Limited for the joint supply of five maritime satellite communications terminals for the Air Warfare Destroyer and Amphibious Ship major programs, at an estimated direct saving of $20 million.

The DEU facilitates $200 million of new exports
Over the past 12 months, the Defence Export Unit (DEU) has facilitated new exports of around $200 million, and are supporting additional export opportunities of over $500 million. The DEU has been successful in achieving market access for Australian companies worldwide.

Operating under “Team Australia” (an initiative between the Australian Government and Industry in promoting Australia’s innovative defence and security technologies overseas) were successful in facilitating a number of Australian companies achieving partnering agreements at international events.

.. We had Armoured Trucks?
During the 1950s, International Harvester Company in close collaboration with the Australian Army, developed a 2-1/2-ton 4x4 General Service truck. Of the ‘cab-over-engine’ design, the initial prototypes underwent testing in the mid-1950s, followed by 100 improved trucks used for extended user trials in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
