The Romans used tough leather with metal fittings, while in the Middle Ages it was suits of steel armour, often of dubious quality. As with many SMEs, it must have been hard for Tony Copley, in 1993, to have imagined where his then one-man-operation would lead. Some 15 years on, Darwin based CARCOM Installations now employs 15 staff members with a turnover of around $2m per year.
