This phase of the Hornet upgrade project seeks to upgrade the RAAF F/A-18 fleet to incorporate avionics and hardware enhancements that will improve mission situational awareness. The radar and electronic warfare capabilities will allow the aircraft to perform its air defence tasks more effectively.

The upgrade includes: full colour displays, moving map capability, secure data link – known as Multi Functional Information Distribution System (link 16) – a Helmet Mounted Cueing System, an upgraded Counter-Measures Dispensing System, a new electronic Counter-measures Jammer, new Radar Warning Receivers.
