Contractors: Phase 3 (Build Phase)

Alliance Industry participants are:

  • ASC AWD Shipbuilder Pty Ltd as the Shipbuilder
  • Raytheon Australia Pty Ltd as the Combat System Systems Engineer and Lockheed Martin Corporation is the Combat System Integrator contracted through a Foreign Military Sales case with the United States Government.

The SEA 4000 Program is being delivered under an Alliance contract arrangement (the Alliance-Based target Incentive Agreement, ABTIA) between Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) AWD Shipbuilder Pty Ltd, Raytheon Australia Pty Ltd and the Commonwealth represented by the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO). As such there is no prime contractor.

The key outcomes for Phase 3 will be the finalisation of detailed design, construction of the ships, set to work of the Aegis Combat System and platform systems, test and trial and ultimately the delivery to Navy of at least three AWDs and their support system. The support system includes crew training, technical documentation, shore facilities, maintenance schemes and spare parts inventories.

The main project activities for 2008-09 focus on progressing the detailed design of the ships, completion of the shipbuilding facilities as ASC’s shipyard in Adelaide, and the identification of hull block and module fabricators.
