This Project will acquire five new generation Airbus Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft – to be known as KC-30B. The acquisition also establishes the infrastructure necessary to deliver services including engineering, maintenance, spares management, technical data, software and training support for the new fleet.
The first phase of flight testing was successfully completed in February 2008; which confirmed the performance and handling qualities of the modified aircraft (including underwing pods and new refuelling boom) for civil certification. The second phase of testing is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2008 following modification of the first aircraft to complete installation of all military systems and software.
