The Australian Army’s mobility is being enhanced by the acquisition of 443 ‘Bushranger’ infantry mobility vehicles through project LAND 116 (Ph 3).

The infantry mobility vehicle fleet will consist of six variants: troop, command, assault pioneer, mortar, direct fire weapon and ambulance. The Air Force Airfield Defence Guards will also operate 12 of the troop variants.

All troop command direct fire weapon and assault pioneer variants under the initial acquisition contract have been delivered on schedule. The first assault pioneer vehicle was delivered on schedule. The first mortar vehicle was delivered in June 2007.

In December 2006 the Government approved the purchase of an additional 143 Bushmaster vehicles for Enhanced Land Forces. The delivery of these vehicles will commence in mid-2007 and is scheduled to be completed by early 2009.

The Bushranger combines good performance, safety and comfort in a rugged vehicle, which operates over the most demanding terrain.
