JP 199 - Establishment of Special Operations Command

Project Overview

In late 2002, the Australian Government directed the establishment of Special Operations Command. JP 199 is the project set up to conduct this task, which includes equipping:

• Joint Special Operations Headquarters;
• an additional (fourth) Commando Company in 4th Royal Australian Regiment; and
• Special Operations Logistics Squadron.

Associated Projects

Associated with JP 199 are projects LAND 132 (Raising the Full Time Commando Capability) and JP 2088 (Establishment of Tactical Assault Group – East). Together these projects have been established to consolidate, coordinate and manage the delivery of a number of Special Forces capabilities.

Current Status

This project was approved in July 2003 with anticipated closure in mid 2010.
The equipment is being delivered progressively over the 2004 – 2010 period.
