Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry (SADI) Program
Strategic Statement of Requirements
The SADI program provides a mechanism by which the Commonwealth and defence industry can address the significant shortfall in the quality and quantity of skills available to the sector to ensure that the ADF has the capabilities it needs to defend Australia and its national interests.
The SADI program is governed by a number of fundamental principles:
1. Proposals submitted for consideration under the SADI Program are required to:
- Generate additional skilled employment and/or up-skill existing employees and/or improve the quality or quantity of skills training; and
- Demonstrate that additional employees will be trained/up-skilled “over and above” the numbers of employees already trained/up-skilled by the company in the normal course of business.
2. Proposals are expected to demonstrate that they:
- Target growth in professional and technical trades categories where current and future shortages are identified;
- Retain skilled employees;
- Address the current and long term growth requirements of industry;
- Demonstrate the commitment of the Company to increase their workforce skills base; and
- Contribute to Defence capability.
3. Positive consideration will be given to proposals that:
- Provide skilling opportunities for experienced employees and employees new to the defence industry sector;
- Retain skilled employees and corporate knowledge; and
- Increase training capacity in areas of identified skill shortages.
