Report of the Defence-Industry Joint Training Task Force
In 2007 Defence led the establishment of a Joint Defence-Industry Training Task Force to explore opportunities for pooled and joint activities where there is significant overlap between defence industry and Australian Defence skill requirements.
The Task Force roles are to:
- make specific recommendations on where the joint training opportunities exist and how they can best be pursued;
- identify the specific areas that might demand tailored solutions to joint and cooperative training;
- recommend additional joint initiatives in areas such as workforce attraction and growth; and
- monitor and evaluate the implementation of those recommendations.
The JTTF has representatives from a cross section of industry with both leading defence companies and SME’s; industry bodies; the Navy, Army and Air Force; the Department of Education, Science and Training; and Defence. The Task Force has made specific recommendations where the joint training opportunities exist including in workforce attraction and retention.
The following report by the JTTF contains initiatives and recommendations under four broad strategies:
- expanding existing joint training initiatives in Defence and industry;
- taking better advantage of under utilised or untapped sources of skills and labour; improving the effectiveness and efficiency of employee movement between Defence and industry, and
- ‘branding the defence industry sector’.
The implementation of these initiatives is the responsibility of JTTF members with the Industry Skilling Directorate within DMO Industry Division providing assistance and support.
