Australian Defence Force – Minor Capital Projects

In addition to the well publicised major projects the Department of Defence, through the three Services, run a number of smaller projects referred to as Minor Capital Projects. These minor projects are also part of Defence's capital equipment investment program but are not large enough in dollar value to be classified as major projects. As a rule these projects are those whose overall cost is less than $20 million although in special circumstances some projects at slightly above this figure will be progressed via this method.

The links below provide access to the cleared version of the Service Minor Projects Lists which provide an indication of possible emerging projects to allow industry to identify potential business opportunities well in advance of the tender process, thereby improving their interaction with Defence. It is the intention of the three Services to maintain this list, removing those that are no longer being considered and adding new minor projects as sufficient information becomes available and it is appropriate to publish the details.

Some additional information that is available is flowcharts of the process that is to be followed to progress the project; from needs analysis, to requirement definition, to acquisition.

In certain cases these minor projects may involve requiring access to sensitive Australian Government information. Industry participants may therefore need to be sponsored into the “Australian Defence Industrial Security Program”. Details on any security issues will be published via the normal process.
