Business Access Offices
The Business Access Offices (BAO) provide a regional interface between Defence and Industry with the strategic intention of establishing stronger Defence-Industry relationships to increase Industry’s effectiveness in support of Australian Defence Force capability.
These relationships are built and maintained through the continuous provision of timely advice, information and guidance to on how to do business with Defence, and how Defence Industry policy is implemented.
Located in each mainland capital city, the Business Access Offices represent Defence in their local areas, engaging with stakeholders and promoting Defence through Defence Awareness and Update Briefings, and working with local and state government and industry bodies to keep Australian businesses aware of the current and future opportunities that exist within the Defence organisation
Business Access Offices Provide Strategic Insights Into Ways Of Doing Business With Defence
The Business Access Offices consult with industry through:
- meetings and one-on-one guidance,
- company visits, and
- facilitated project and program briefings.

Major activities to assist Australian industry:
- Helping industry to understand Defence business and facilitating Defence awareness of industry capabilities
- Provide tailored information and advice on national Defence business opportunities.
- Provide up-to-date knowledge of Defence projects and capability plans
- Identify and refer potential new products to relevant teams within Defence, where appropriate
- Work with local, state government and industry associations to deliver up-to-date information and presentations on issues of interest
- Provide references on procurement processes within Defence
- Manage the Letter of Recognised Supply (LoRS) scheme
- Manage industry assistance programs such as the Unsolicited Promotional Product Offer (UPPO) Scheme
- Provide information on other DMO industry assistance programs
- Provide industry with current advice on the implementation of Defence Industry policy
- Liaise between Defence and Industry to ensure all stakeholders are informed on any up-dates to Industry policy
The Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme (DRSS) was reviewed in 2011 which resulted in the scheme being replaced with the Letter of Recognised Supply (LoRS) scheme. Companies with current Defence Recognised Supplier Scheme (DRSS) acknowledgement will be permitted to continue using the logo and acknowledgement until their Deed expires.
