How To Apply

Overview

As a scholarship recipient in the Materiel Engineering Undergraduate Scholarship (MEUS), you will have:

  • The opportunity to study at the UNSW@ADFA which is one of Australia’s most respected universities, has the best student-to-teacher ratio in the country, and access to great sports and recreation facilities

  • All of your Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) fees (previously known as HECS) covered

  • A generous bursary of $2000 per annum to put towards the cost of books and other study expenses

  • Excellent paid work experience opportunities in arguably the largest project management, logistics, procurement and engineering services organisation in Australia – with a minimum of six weeks each year

  • An opportunity to achieve the practical work experience component that is a requirement of your engineering degree awarded by the UNSW. This relevant work experience will form part of your professional accreditation with Engineers Australia

  • An opportunity to apply for the Materiel Graduate Scheme upon successful completion of your undergraduate degree. See: Materiel Graduate Scheme

  • Exposure to a unique and diverse organisation

  • Opportunity to work on projects with leading edge technology; and

  • Great career opportunities.

Excellent employment conditions

Upon completion of your studies, if you join the DMO full time you will have access to:

  • Four weeks annual leave per year
  • 15 days personal leave each year for illness and caring purposes
  • Access to up to 52 weeks maternity leave, including up to 18 weeks paid leave
  • Flex time and access to other flexible working arrangements, like working from home, after you have completed the MGS
  • Payment for membership of, and certification by, one accredited professional association related to your job role, after you have completed the MGS
  • Assistance for further formal study
  • Christmas stand down; and
  • Paid long service leave.

What do I need to do to successfully complete MEUS?

To complete the MEUS successfully you will need to:

  • Complete your degree in the 4 years whilst maintaining a credit average
  • Participate in your work experience program including looking at links between theory and practical application
  • Develop and demonstrate your professionalism both as a member of DMO staff and as an engineer; and
  • Demonstrate values by committing to the scholarship program and complying with the ADFA and UNSW codes of conduct.

Professional Development in the DMO

The DMO is committed to helping you become a recognised professional in your chosen discipline. DMO’s assistance includes

  • Payment of your membership subscriptions and training costs related to approved professional bodies such as Engineers Australia; and
  • Professional development and educational opportunities to develop your knowledge and competencies

Professional and personal development after the MEUS

After successfully completing the MEUS program you are encouraged to apply to the DMO’s MGS which entails three 6 month rotations in various locations throughout Australia. During the MGS you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in the DMO and participate in structured and on-the-job learning activities designed to develop you as a key professional in the DMO and enhance your career prospects.

During and after the MGS you can take advantage of professional and personal development opportunities available through the DMO's Professionalisation Agenda. The Professionalisation Agenda is an integrated, consistent and disciplined approach to improving skills and professional development of the DMO workforce, closely aligned to business practices. It aims to develop workforce capability, meeting both current and emerging skill sets required by the organisation.

The DMO Professionalisation Agenda incorporates two main elements:

  • Chartering/certifying processes involving the assessment of competence against the highest professional standards available and ongoing professional development; and
  • Skills achieved through accredited education and training programs.

A guaranteed permanent position

Graduates who successfully complete the MGS are promoted to a position relevant to their discipline within the DMO.

Further development through the DMO Institute

The DMO has established its own corporate Institute. The DMO Institute delivers accredited vocational and academic education that is job-ready and designed to provide qualifications to DMO staff from all disciplines.

The DMO Institute works with other key educational institutions such as:

  • TAFE NSW
  • University of Technology, Sydney
  • Melbourne Business School
  • Mt Eliza School of Executive Education; and
  • US Defense Acquisition University

This ongoing learning environment will contribute to the DMO becoming the benchmark project management and engineering services organisation.
