Role
Jimmy is a project engineer completing his final rotation with Guided Weapons Acquisition (GWA) Branch. GWA is a branch within Explosive Ordnance Division of the Defence Material Organisation (DMO) and manages the Major Capital Equipment Acquisition of all Guided Weapons for the Australian Defence Organisation.
Career profile
Since joining the DMO in 2007 as a graduate engineer, Jimmy has completed rotations in the Project Management Unit (PMU) of Ground Telecommunications within Electronic Systems Division, working on everything from minor projects to a major project in the Air to Air Refuel Project within Aerospace Systems Division. During his rotation he was the project engineer and assisted the project manager and logistics manager, working on three vastly different projects ranging from a pilot monitoring radio to a tower visual simulator.
Jimmy also worked on the Air to Air Refuel Project Office acquiring 5 Airbus A330-200 aircrafts to replace the existing 4 Boeing 707s as the new generation tanker aircrafts. During his rotation he worked within the engineering team to develop acceptance testing procedures and prepare the aircraft for test readiness.
Jimmy is currently working on the Standard Missile 2 project which is a surface launched anti air missile fitted on the RAN’s Guided Missile Frigates. In addition he is also working on a number of Air Launched and Air to Air missiles currently in the early developmental stage.
Jimmy was able to gain a diverse range of experience by making the most of opportunities working on various Air Force and Navy projects within different divisions. This has provided him with a high level of exposure to how DMO does business and its role within the Defence Industry.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
