Role

Andrew is Legal Graduate, currently completing his final rotation in the Industry Acquisitions and Asset Sales (IAAS) branch of Industry Division. IAAS branch’s primary responsibility is to ensure that Defence’s interests are preserved during any industry mergers or acquisitions. Two big acquisitions/sales that are currently occurring are the BAE purchase of Tenix Defence and the possible Commonwealth Sale of ASC. Andrew’s role is to provide legal and process advice relating to theses acquisitions and to co-ordinate Defence’s response to any issues as they might arise.

Career profile

Andrew started the Materiel Graduate Scheme at the beginning of 2007. His first rotation was in Legal and Procurement Services where he provided legal, policy and procurement advice to various areas of DMO.

In his second rotation, Andrew worked in the Business Services section of the Aerospace Maritime and Surveillance branch. His role was to provide contract support to a number of projects within the branch, though primarily he was involved with the Phase 1 of AIR 7000 (the unmanned component of the P3 Orion replacement). He got an “up-close and personal” experience of the tendering process within DMO and was involved with contract preparation, tender review and negotiations.

Qualifications

Andrew has a double degree, a Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Business from the Queensland University of Technology.
