Overview
As an employee on the Materiel Undergraduate Scheme (MUS), you will have:
-

Competitive salary
When you join the MUS your annual salary will be at a minimum of $28,000 including:
-
reimbursement each semester for your essential textbooks
-
generous employer contribution to superannuation, 15.4% upon joining Public Sector Super Accumulation Plan (PSSap) and
- relocation and travel allowances, if your work experience placement is outside your home locality
Excellent employment conditions
Once you join the DMO fulltime you will have access to:
-
four weeks annual leave;
-
15 days personal leave each year for illness and caring purposes;
-
access to up to 52 weeks maternity leave, including up to 14 weeks paid leave;
-
flextime and access to other flexible working arrangements, like working from home, after you have completed the MGS;
-
payment for membership of and certification by one accredited professional association related to your job role, after you have completed the MGS;
-
assistance for further formal study;
-
paid Christmas stand down;
-
paid long service leave;
- access to the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) relocation assistance package.

What do I need to do to successfully complete MUS?
To complete the MUS successfully you will need to:
-
continue your studies through to graduation, maintaining a credit average; and
- be recommended by your work experience supervisors for a place on the MGS.
Professional Development in the DMO
DMO is committed to helping you become a recognised professional in your chosen discipline, DMO’s assistance includes:
-
payment of your membership subscriptions and training costs related to approved professional bodies for example Engineers Australia, the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, Certified Practising Accountants (CPA) Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA)
- professional development and educational opportunities to develop your knowledge and competencies

Professional and personal development after the Materiel Undergraduate Scheme
After successfully completing the MUS program you gain immediate access to the DMO’s MGS , an 18 month program that includes three 6 month rotations in various locations throughout Australia. During the MGS you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in DMO and participate in structured and on-the-job learning activities designed to develop you as a key professional in DMO and enhance your career prospects.
During and after the MGS you can take advantage of professional and personal development opportunities available through the DMO's Professionalisation Agenda. The Professionalisation Agenda is an integrated, consistent and disciplined approach to improving skills and professional development of the DMO workforce, closely aligned to business practices. It aims to develop workforce capability, meeting both current and emerging skill sets required by the organisation.
The DMO Professionalisation Agenda incorporates two main elements:
-
chartering/certifying processes involving the assessment of competence against the highest professional standards available and ongoing professional development
- skills achieved through accredited education and training programs.
A guaranteed permanent position
Graduates who successfully complete the MGS are promoted to a position relevant to their discipline within DMO.
Further development through the Defence Materiel Organisation Institute
DMO has established its own corporate institute in an alliance with DeakinPrime, the corporate arm of Deakin University. The DMO Institute delivers accredited vocational and academic education, that is job-ready and designed to provide qualifications to DMO staff from all disciplines.
