The Materiel Cadetship Scheme

The Materiel Cadetship Scheme (MCS) is the Defence Materiel Organisation’s (DMO) scheme to support you through the final years of your degree and prepare you for a professional career in the DMO.

What the Materiel Cadetship Scheme offers

MCS offers you:

  • the opportunity to be paid to complete the last years of your degree
  • financial support for textbooks
  • a guarantee of employment in a dynamic project delivery organisation on successful completion
  • a minimum of six weeks of professionally recognised real-world work experience each year
  • a dedicated support team to help you through your study.

Who is the Materiel Cadetship Scheme for?

Disciplines recruited through the DMO Cadetship Scheme are reviewed each year.
Disciplines for the 2009 MCS are as follows:

Engineering

  • Electrical engineering
  • Electronic engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Naval Architecture
  • Maritime engineering
  • Software engineering
  • Systems engineering
  • Mechatronic engineering
  • Aerospace engineering

Important:
For engineering cadetships your degree must be recognised by Engineers Australia for professional membership.

Commercial

  • Accounting
  • Information Technology
  • Logistics

Important:

For accountant cadetships you must be completing a degree accredited by Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA) as meeting the entry requirements for the CPA or CA programs.

How many cadetships are there?

There are up to 25 cadetships available for 2009. These will be awarded to undergraduate engineers in their penultimate (second last) or final year of study and undergraduates studying accounting, IT and logistics in their final year of study.

Applications for the 2010 programs will open in March 2009.
