Maritime Systems Division (MSD) provides through-life support services to the Navy and Army maritime capability for predominantly Australian, unique ship classes, with a very diverse product baseline and low volume, as well as supplying fuels and prescribed common items to the ADF. The overall sustainment concept is to support maritime capability through cost effective materiel design, maintenance engineering and logistic support to platforms, equipment and systems. The provision of these sustainment services is under a structure of system program offices that are collocated regionally with the Navy forces and groups by ship class, which manage the delivery of goods and services through a variety of outsourced, increasingly performance based commercial contracts. MSD consists of three branches and the Office of Head of Maritime Systems. Major Surface Ships Branch (MSS) is responsible for the acquisition, upgrade and sustainment of major surface combatants, amphibious and support ships, and maritime ranges. In addition, MSS Branch has responsibility for MSD emerging projects, Garden Island precinct development and the development of sustainment contracting, supporting the SRP and the Rizzo recommendations. Our vision is: ‘Together with Navy and Industry, we provide safe and effective warships for the nation’. Specialist Ships Branch (SS) is responsible for acquiring and sustaining the materiel capability of all specialist ships, specifically Armidale Class and Pacific Patrol Boats, Hydrographic Ships and Navy’s Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Systems, enabling Navy to meet operational requirements. Maritime Support Branch (MARSPT) is responsible for the provision of logistics services including inventory management, engineering oversight and advice, supplier quality assurance, minor capital equipment projects and associated information technology system support for Royal Australian Navy ships and establishments, as well as fuel and allied products for all three branches of the Australian Defence Force. Office of Head Maritime Systems (OHMS) is responsible for providing executive support to the Maritime Systems Division. Specific responsibilities include strategic planning, governance, corporate services, business assurance, reform, financial, quality and human resource management. |
