Inside DMO

Industry Division delivers timely and valued information to the Government and the Australian Defence Force which assists with the development of an effective and efficient Defence industry able to support Australian Defence Force Operations.

This branch promotes consideration of industry capability issues across the full spectrum of the capability management cycle. This includes identification of Defence’s industry capability requirements and the development of strategies to facilitate delivery of these requirements within Defence’s acquisition and through-life-support projects. The branch maintains and facilitates implementation of the Defence Industry Sector Plans including industry engagement, industry requirements, export assistance, supply chain management and technology development. It also liaises closely with industry capability and Defence relationship issues.

This branch develops and populates a knowledge base of data on the capabilities and performance of industry to support Defence Materiel Organisation acquisition decisions. The knowledge base will include financial data and data analysis, industry visit reports and market intelligence, annual returns from companies, government agency statistics relevant to industry capability, ScoreCard data and analysis, Australian Industry Involvement data and analysis and project reports and assessments.

Counsellor Defence Materiel (London and Washington)

Counsellor Defence Materiel offices in London and Washington provide the focal points for Australian defence materiel interests in their respective region, specifically in managing procurement, logistics and industry issues.

The DMO BAOs promote effective relationships between Defence, industry and state governments by providing advice, information and assistance on defence matters. They also assist subject matter experts in their region to identify and access project contact officers in the Defence Materiel Organisation.

Industry Policy and International Materiel Cooperation’s Sections

These sections manage development of Defence industry policy (including the Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry Program) and the formal agreements with foreign governments about Defence industry and materiel cooperation.
