OVERVIEW

Now that you are ready to apply, let’s:

  • review some key eligibility requirements; and
  • find out if you can meet us at a Careers Fair near you

KEY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible to apply for a place on the 2012/2013 Materiel Graduate Scheme (MGS), you must:

  • be an Australian citizen by August 2012 or January 2013 (depending on the intake date)
  • have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline as a minimum (with a credit grade average); and
  • have completed your most recent qualification within the last 5 years.

Note: You may not be eligible to apply for the Materiel Graduate Scheme if you have received a redundancy benefit from an Australian Public Service (APS) agency or a non- APS Commonwealth employer, within the 12 months prior to applications closing.

Selection process
The eight stage selection process for the 2012/2013 MGS is outlined in the following table:

Applications are assessed and short listed.

Apr-May 2012

Attend Assessment centres.
Short listed applicants are invited to attend assessment centres with the MCS team.
Note: If you are short listed, you will be given the details of your assessment centre and any necessary travel information. Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) may cover any reasonable costs associated with attending an assessment centre, if there isn’t one in your area.

May-June 2012

Offers are made to candidates after successfully completing the assessment centres.

June-Oct 2012

Candidates accept or decline offers.

Within 2 - 3 weeks of receiving an offer

Security and medical clearances are undertaken for those candidates who accept an offer.

June-December 2012

Candidates who obtain security and medical clearances will be invited to commence the MGS in late August 2012 or late January 2013.

July/December 2012

INDIGENOUS APPLICANTS

Indigenous graduates from the required disciplines are encouraged to apply directly to DMO.

In addition, indigenous candidates can submit applications through the Australian Public Service Commission's Indigenous Graduate Recruitment Program as an entry point to graduate programs across the APS.
