All ongoing employment opportunities have also been advertised in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette. They may be filled either by promotion, engagement or reassignment. Unless otherwise specified, closing date is two weeks from the date of advertisement in the gazette. ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY Vacancies are open to all Australian citizens subject to certain eligibility requirements. EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT Engagement in DMO is under the Public Service Act 1999, which provides for both permanent and fixed-term employment. Terms and conditions of employment for DMO staff are set by the Defence Employees' Collective Agreement 2006 – 2009. This can be accessed from the Defence Internet site (www.defence.gov.au). SECURITY All vacancies in the DMO are subject to a security assessment. Please be aware that all Defence jobs require some level of security clearance, and to be eligible for such a clearance, you must be an Australian citizen. Depending on the level of security required for an advertised position applicants must be prepared to have a security background check for the previous 5 years and for high level security clearance a background check of 10 years is required. GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS Selection for all vacancies within Defence is based on merit. The assessment process to determine the preferred applicant for a position can be decided in a variety of ways. Some techniques that may be used to assess applicants include written tests, interviews, role-plays, group discussions, problem solving activities and psychometric testing. After the Committee has made a selection the successful and unsuccessful applicants will be advised in writing. REFEREES COMMENTS When an applicant is short-listed for interview, referees may be contacted and asked to provide assessment of your performance against the selection criteria for the advertised position. The Committee can seek referees comments from sources other than those nominated by the applicant.
