The Propulsion Systems Engineering (PROPSYSENG) Course developed by the Engine Structural Integrity section of DGTA (ESI-DGTA) aims to provide engineering and technical personnel involved in ADF aviation with increased awareness and understanding of:

Mr Matt Hansell (BE, MSc Thermal Power) Aero Systems Business Manager, QinetiQ Pty Ltd. Mr Hansell has extensive gas turbine experience working within the ADF Technical Airworthiness System.

Officer-In-Charge, Engine Structural Integrity section (OIC-ESI1), DGTA. The OIC of ESI1 is responsible for leading a team of 5 personnel who perform specialist engineering management and technical airworthiness oversight of all ADF engine systems.

Location

RAAF Base Amberley, located 60mins drive south west of Brisbane Airport.

Duration

3 days (0745-1600).

Pre-requisites

To be eligible to attend the course, applicants must be either:

  1. Australian Defence Organisation (ADF/APS) personnel, or
  2. Defence Contractor personnel,

who are currently involved in (or planning to be involved in) ADF aero engine acquisitions and/or in-service management.

The content is aimed at tertiary qualified (TQ) engineers and suitably experienced non-TQ personnel. ‘Suitable experience’ would include SGT (E) or higher ranked positions in engine workshops or AEO engine management cells, for example.

Cost

ADO Personnel. DGTA funds the cost of the course for ADO personnel. Additionally, DGPERS-AF provides travel and subsistence (T&S) funding for RAAF personnel. T&S for RAN, Army and APS personnel is the responsibility of the owning unit. Accommodation and travel bookings are the responsibility of the attendee.
Defence Contractors. $1250 (GST incl). Accommodation and travel bookings are the responsibility of the attendee. Ipswich is the nearest town centre approximately 10min drive from the base, providing a selection of accommodation venues.

Dress

Military. Service dress with long trousers/pants.
Civilian. Neat civilian attire, with long trousers/pants and enclosed shoes.

Meals
Light morning and afternoon tea will be provided. Attendees must make their own arrangements for lunch. RAAF Amberley has the usual mess arrangements and two canteens.

Qualification

Upon successful completion of the course including passing an assessment, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance. For ADO personnel the course will be listed against your PMKeys profile.

PROPSYSENG is typically scheduled every 6-8 months.
A further course is expected in November 2012.

ADO Personnel. Nominations are made via PMKeys, use course code 200924. session 18.

Nominations close: 26 March 2012

If direct PMKeys nomination is not possible please fax a completed PT076 form to (03) 9256 3540 and follow up with an email to the course administrator (details below) to confirm receipt.
 
Defence Contractors. Nominations are to be made using the contractor nomination form attached HERE. Nominations close: 26 March 2012.

Due to demand, business units are requested to limit nominations to a maximum of two per course.

Selection Process

There are 20 positions available. The course is often oversubscribed. Attendees will be allocated on a needs basis as determined by OIC-ESI1 following the closing date. ESI Managers (as defined by Technical Airworthiness Regulation 3.5.5) and other positions with explicit training requirements to attend the PROPSYSENG stipulated in local instructions will have first preference. Nominees will be advised of the outcome within 3 business days after nominations close.
