The British Ambassador to Afghanistan, Sir William Patey, recently made his first visit to Uruzgan Province joined by Australian Ambassador Paul Foley.

While no British personnel serve in Uruzgan, the province borders Helmand, where the majority of British Forces are deployed.

Ambassador Patey was interested in visiting Uruzgan to see first hand the situation in the province and took the opportunity to receive the latest briefs and to meet with the Provincial Governor and a number of local community leaders.

Sir William stressed the importance of a secure southern Afghanistan to the nation’s future and spoke extensively on security, the successful reintegration of insurgents and the future of transition in this part of the country.
