After many weeks of intense theoretical training and practice drills, the Artillerymen of the 4th Brigade, 205 ‘Hero’ Corps, Afghan National Army, have taken to the heavy weapons range at Multi National Base Tarin Kot for their first live fire exercise.
Watched over by their Australian and American mentors, who are being assisted by a new team of Mongolian Artificers, the Afghan soldiers brought their D30 artillery pieces into action, direct firing at targets on the range.
The Afghan Artillerymen clearly demonstrated the skills that they had learned from their mentors, competently and professionally manning their weapons and engaging their targets.
The artillery training further augments the skills of the Afghan National Army.
In the past, the Afghan National Army in Uruzgan has relied on Coalition Forces to provide the offensive support that artillery brings to the battlefield.
With a short period of final training to take place, these soldiers are significantly closer to taking over responsibility for the security of their country.
