Chief of Joint Operations LtGen Ash Power has met with members of the Australian contingent of the United Nations Mission In Sudan and the Republic of South Sudan.
The ‘birth’ of the world’s newest country––the Republic of South Sudan––in July this year was the culmination of the five-year Comprehensive Peace Agreement facilitated by the United Nations between North and South Sudan.
With Australia’s deployment as part of the United Nations mission coming to a close, LtGen Power presented Staff Officers and Military Liaison Officers of Australian Contingent 13 with Australian Service Medals with Sudan clasp and the United Nations Mission in Sudan medal.
The Chief of Joint Operations also presented Gold and Silver Commendations respectively to UN Movements Officer, WOFF Jamie Auld, and Deputy Commander of the Australian Contingent, LCdr Michael Blagg, for their efforts during the establishment of the new UN mission.
During the visit, LtGen Power took the opportunity to brief contingent members about ongoing ADF operations, including SLIPPER and RESOLUTE, and the ADF’s commitment to UN deployments.
While in Juba, the capital of the Republic of South Sudan, LtGen Power also held meetings with the United Nations Mission In South Sudan Force Commander, Nigerian MajGen Moses Obi.
