Chook flies in supplies

The Australian Army has airlifted supplies and recovery personnel into the isolated township of Condamine in preparation for the return of the local population who were evacuated due to flooding.
A CH-47 Chinook helicopter of the 5th Aviation Regiment, C Squadron, was used to airlift personnel and equipment from nearby Miles in support of the government and non-government agencies facilitating the recovery of the local community.
Queensland State Emergency Service, Fire and Rescue, Police, Red Cross, Salvation Army and other government and non-government agencies personnel with basic food supplies, water, and temporary accommodation were airlifted the 24km between the towns.
Western Downs Mayor Mr Ray Brown said to have the support of the Australian Defence Force has been absolutely tremendous.
“It has been a long experience for us and everyone was drained but the support we have received from the Defence Force has bought everyone back to life,” Mr Brown said.
“It has really helped the moral of the whole community.”
The personnel and stores will facilitate and assist with the safe return and recovery of the Condamine community.
Once the critical equipment, supplies and personnel were airlifted safely into the area the Chinook helicopter assisted with the return of evacuees to Condamine.
