The National Archives of Australia (NAA) imposed a disposal freeze on records relating to claims of abuse and related material in the Defence organisation on October 22.

The disposal freeze prevents Defence from destroying records under current records authorities or normal administrative practice. The freeze will remain in place until lifted by the NAA.

More information about the disposal freeze on records relating to claims of abuse in Defence is contained in DEFGRAM 729/2012, or visit intranet.defence.gov.au/oscdfweb/sites/RMP/comweb.asp?Page=37009, or the NAA's 'Freezes and Embargo' website at www.naa.gov.au/records-management/agency/keep-destroy-transfer/freezes/index.aspx.
