Results through People on the move

On 1 October, the Results through People (RtP) program transferred to the Directorate of Leadership, Values and Cultural Engagement (LVCE) within the Personnel Executive, Australian Defence Headquarters. LVCE is now responsible for the management of the RtP workshops, as well as the development and maintenance of the associated network.

The Results through People program

The RtP program is strongly supported by the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force and they encourage all staff members who have a supervisory role to attend a workshop in their region. The program is based on the philosophy that organisations achieve results by effectively leading and managing their people, and that a balance is needed between technical skills and the emotional intelligence required to enable people to perform at their best.

The Results through People network

The RtP network consists of a number of groups around the country who meet to share ideas on issues that affect them. Each group has a network leader who organises presentations and events in their region to promote the RtP philosophy to all staff in the region. Members build their individual networks through regular informal get-togethers to assist each other with issues in their area, and to share information that may help others. LVCE will be in touch with each of the network leaders over the coming months to find out their thoughts on the network, as well as ideas on how it may be improved.

The Results through People workshops

The RtP workshops are conducted over three days and provide managers with a better understanding of their roles, the skills necessary to do their jobs more effectively and the motivation to apply the lessons learned. The workshops consist of presentations, anecdotes, syndicate work and case study exercises, which provide participants with a sound understanding of what is expected of them as managers. They leave the workshop armed with ideas on how to build relationships with their staff to achieve a cohesive and high performing work environment.

If you are responsible for supervising people and you have not previously attended a course, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Online nomination forms and course dates are available from the LVCE website at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/lvce.

Courses between December and March are filling fast, so please get your nomination form in early. If you require assistance in nominating, or have any questions regarding the RtP workshops, please contact Nicky Hopkins on (02) 6265 2378.
