Chief Information Officer

Be prepared for your new posting

The Defence IT Service Desk is coming up to a very busy period with thousands of Defence personnel relocating from base to base as part of the annual posting cycle. This movement of personnel occurs every year from mid-December to early March.

It is highly desirable for all personnel relocating from their current posting to arrange the relocation of their Defence Restricted Network (DRN) Account prior to leaving their current location.

To arrange the relocation of your DRN account, visit the DRN Chief Information Officer Group home page at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/ciogweb and click on the easily recognisable green oval ‘POSTING’ icon and then follow the instructions that will direct you to the self-help system available via the ‘Are you being posted’ icon.

The operating instructions mentioned above will be modified to be specific and understandable to DRN users. The ‘Are you being posted’ icon, which is located on your DRN desktop, will also be updated to make it more user-friendly.

Using the ‘Are you being posted’ icon early, to arrange for your DRN account to be moved, will minimise the delays you experience when you arrive at your new posting. Last-minute requests create workload issues for the IT Service Desk, including creating a backlog of tasks that your early use of the icon will allow them to avoid.

‘Using the “Are you being posted” icon will help you have a better posting experience than I had,’ says Chief Petty Officer Ellis (pictured adjacent). Using the icon enables the IT Service Desk to get on with the task of supporting the day-to-day operation of the DRN.

If you need to relocate your Defence Secret Network (DSN) account, please log an eNAR (Electronic Network Access Request) through the DSN home page. eNARs should be lodged at least four weeks before your move.

So remember, if you’re being posted, it is to your advantage to use the ‘Are you being posted’ icon to relocate your DRN Account. Make the transition to your new posting a smooth one!
